renowned gehry collection
von knoll international
design: Frank Gehry
In 1989, the internationally renowned architect Frank Gehry - in an experimental workshop established by Knoll - made the first formed wood curves for a furniture collection that found its way into the great museums of the world as soon as it was introduced on the market in 1992.
the flowing lines of the maple bands forms the basis for the light-weight and yet durable furniture models. They underline, beyond trends and conventions, the simple, yet essential idea: the fusion of material and form. with the same simplicity, frank gehry commented on his collection: "the weaving technique is everything."
for environmental reasons, knoll uses maple wood from the woods of the menominee indians in wisconsin for the fabrication of the gehry collection. these woods are protected by controlled forestation methods that ensure a long-term tree population. Every tree that is felled is replaced immediately with a new sapling.
